Shower Safe: Body Washes Your Liver Can Get With

First some advice: don’t Google “woman showering” unless you’re ready to see some boobs.

Secondly, I am able to withstand some pretty high levels of pain, hours of aggressive hiccups, and eating whole cloves of garlic for its anti-inflammatory benefits, but somehow I have been brought to my knees by a hangnail. I’ll have to find some solutions to these buggers to feature on the blog because I’m about ready to ditch my index finger entirely.

Now, let’s go through a day in the life of your liver, shall we? With the way we live our lives, our livers are constantly removing chemicals from our bodies, as we are exposed to so many on a daily basis. It starts with your morning shower, the chemicals in your body wash, deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream. Then comes your morning coffee and the pesticides that were sprayed on the beans (and on the apple you grabbed on your way into work). Then the plastics that melted into your food from the tupperware you heated up your lunch in. The parabens in your lipstick. I mean, I could go on and on, but you get it. Laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent (!), the stuff you clean your counters and floors with, everything seems to be a chemical, everything we eat seems to touch plastic. It’s amazing that our livers can even keep up. I haven’t even included alcohol, or those tylenol you take everyday for your headaches.

So give that weird little organ a break, eh? Small changes can mean a huge difference for your body. The liver can only filter so much, and somewhere along the line there’s a tipping point, we just don’t know when. Thankfully now there’s a ton of chemical free, safe products we can use in our homes, on our bodies, and especially on our kids bodies. This is so dear to my heart that I’ll always be featuring my favorite safe products. When I did a POTW video about Pacific Shaving Co I got a ton of questions about my favorite body washes. I mentioned that the most important products to switch out for safe ones are those that cover most of your body (shaving, body wash, body lotion).

Here are my top three body washes:

Beautycounter Everyday Body Wash-citrusy, invigorating, great for morning showers

ever_day_body_wash_rz (1)

Seventh Generation Lavender Nourishing Body Wash-calming scent, great for showers and baths before bed

SGlavender

Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Body Wash-amazingly fresh, clean scent, great for anytime or if you don’t have a daytime and nighttime body wash like some of us…

It’s so easy to do. These products are easily available, affordable, and work really well. So make friends with your liver, you’re going to need it to work for a very long time. xo, L
